How often do women have a portrait taken of themselves and why do they do it? Most of the time, if a woman is having her portrait taken, it is for business purposes. Rarely does she think about having a session just for herself. If she has a family, she is more likely thinking about a FAMILY session, not a couples or individual session. And, why is that?
I think it is because of our wiring, environment, and factors that determine "roles" and so forth in our world. Women often feel "selfish" if they think about having a portrait of just themselves. It HAS to serve a purpose or it HAS to include the family.
Well, I am here to debunk that theory and say that ALL women should exist in portraits for ANY reason. How about "just because". Because you want to feel more confident. Because you want to see yourself how others see you. Because, well, just because.
For mothers, please make it a point to exist in photographs. Your children will go looking for you in photos one day, and you need to be there. One day portraits will be your family’s most prize possession; they will be priceless, and if you are not there, what a very sad day that will be.
And, the same advice is for those that do not have children. One day your loved ones and friends will go looking for you in photos, and you might not be found.
So, let's create something special like we did for Stephanie. Even though her portraits were NOT just because, she is still getting beautiful prints that she can display in her home.
And, yes. I know. Many women will say, " I don't want portraits of myself on display!" I say, "Well, why NOT?"
The purpose of Stephanie's session was due to an award she had received in her industry! We are so happy for her!
So, we offered a variety of posing, and she found three that will work to submit to the magazine she was being honored in. We are so happy for Stephanie! Congratulations!
